PCASDR Time Trial — Buttonwillow

Buttonwillow Raceway

About this event

ONLINE EVENT REGISTRATION is now CLOSED.  It is suggested that if you did not register during the online registration period you contact preregAway@pcasdr.org before heading out to the track to ensure that you and your car qualify to participate.  An on-site registration fee will apply.  If you have already signed up and have changes your registration, please contact the Registrar.

Porsche Club of America  San Diego Region welcomes you!

Join us as we wrap up the fantastic 2012 season at what is for many Southern California's favorite track:  Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Saturday & Sunday, November 3 & 4.  This weekend will be comprised of Time Trial (prerequisites required; see Prior Experience section on the following page) and PCA Club Race (see http://www.pca.org/Activities/ClubRacing.aspx) groups.  Registration on this site is for Time Trial groups only.  Time Trials work like a Driver's Ed event during practice, but feature Transponder timing with times posted after each session as well as online after the event.  In addition, on Sunday afternoon, optional TImed Runs are available, giving you clean laps in which to record an official time for th event.  Note that, for those interested in an extra day of driving, Grand Prix Region is hosting a Driver's Ed/Test & Tune event on Friday, November 2.  For information and registration on that event click here (separate registration required).

We will be running configuration #1 clockwise, as usual.

To register online and save up to $60 we require that you join the PCA - San Diego group here on MotorsportReg.com (note:  this just means adding PCA - San Diego to your list of Clubs on MotorsportReg; it does not make you a member of PCA).  Regardless of which region of PCA you belong to or if you don't belong to PCA at all, you must join the SDR group on this web site.  This will be done as a step in the registration process.  Non-Porsches that meet our rules are welcome!!!

Event Hotel:  The event hotel for our Buttonwillow weekend is the fabulous Motel 6 Buttonwillow Central at 20645 Tracy Ave, Buttonwillow, CA  93206 (note for those who haven't been to Buttonwillow in a while:  this is our usual hotel, briefly known as the Red Roof Inn previously, the Willow Inn & Suites before that, and possibly the Four Seasons Buttonwillow before that).  $45.99 single or double and you must mention the Porsche Club room block when you phone.  Rate and room block expire October 26 or when sold out, whichever comes first.  Reservations may be made by calling (661) 764-5121.  If the hotel is full there are several other lodging establishments at the Buttonwillow exit.  Check Google Maps for locations.  Or, if you prefer potentially more luxurious accommodations you may wish to consider the Best Western Heritage Inn, 253 Trask St, Bakersfield, CA  93314, (661) 764-6268.  The Inn is 5 miles south of the event hotel and nearly twice the price, but we have it on good authority that it is a star or two better in quality.  It is suggested that you ignore the travelnow.com link to the right of this page and contact your preferred hotel directly.

Camping at the Track:  Camping at the track is available.  The track has electrical and water hook-ups only.  There are two potential costs, $40 payable to PCA to cover 24 hour security/in-out regardless of where you camp at the track, and potentially a second charge payable to the track if a pad is rented.  You MUST call the track on your own to reserve a pad.  The track will then charge you separately in addition to the amount PCA charges.

Late Registration:  You must register by 11:59 pm PDT October 19 to receive the discounted online rate; after that a $25 late fee applies through October 29.  Online registration closes at 11:59 pm PDT October 29, after which significantly higher on-site registration fees apply.  If unable to register online, you may register by faxing in the standard form available in the Windblown Witness or on the pcasdr.net website (higher fees apply).

Payment:  You MUST use a credit card to pay if registering online, VISA or MasterCard only.  For complete event pricing details proceed with registration steps.  You will have a chance to confirm after you make your selections.  Card billed AFTER the event.

Note:  Your account can only be used to register yourself!  Every entrant, including a co-driver, needs their own MotorsportReg.com account.

If you have a question about this event, please contact the Registrar at:  preregAway@pcasdr.org.

Event requirements

Prior Experience:  Time Trial participants without a Zone 8 Solo Permit (or approved equivalent) must have completed at least 8 Autocross and/or DE and/or Driving School days or equivalent over the past 6 to 24 months.  In addtional, all participants must be a minimum age of 18 years, have a valid state driver license, and be in good mental and physical health.

Please contact the Registrar for information on helmet rental at least two weeks prior to the event, if needed.  Experienced drivers new to SDR events may also be required to have an Instructor until their competency has been demonstrated.

New Classification System for 2012:  The classification system has changed for 2012.  Even if you participated in the SDR classification system in 2011 you will still need to reclassify your car from scratch.  Fortunately there's now an online tool to help you do that.  Go to http://zone8.pca.org/CarClass/Default.aspx and enter info about your car.  You need to do this BEFORE you click Continue below and begin to register as you are required to input your 2012 class as part of the registration process.  All cars need to do this, including X class cars, as safety equipment requirements are determined based upon Modification points which are calculated as part of the online tool.  The ability for the online tool to calculate Modification points for non-Porsches is still under development.  Non-Porsches running in X class may register now but will be required to provide their Modification point total prior to the event once the online tool has the functionality to calculate it.

Pre-tech is Strongly Encouraged!  Please try to take your car in for service and have it thoroughly inspected prior to this event.  With two full days of our high track time event in central California (not near any dealers or shops), you will want to be safe and have your car make it through the weekend.  Plus you'll want to be certain that, before you leave for the track, you and your car have any required safety equipment (Stock and Street Stock coupes generally need no additional safety equipment, but see the Rules link below to be sure that you qualify).  All entrants pre-teching must present a Tech Inspection Form with name, address, phone, car, class, etc. to a qualified tech inspection shop.  The form can be found at:  http://pcasdr.net/pcasdr/forms/AXRegForm.pdfThe Tech Inspection Form has changed for 2012.  Please download the new form using the link above.  Do not use the old form as the classification system has changed since the 2011 season so it will not be accepted and you will need to re-tech at the track.  Cars inspected by shops not personally known to the Registrar are subject to random on-site re-inspection.

PCA Zone 8 Driving Rules can be found here:  http://zone8.pca.org/rules/2012/2012Z8Rules.pdf.

If there are any changes to your registration data after the online registration deadline, you need to notify the Registrar by the day of the event BEFORE the first run session.

All entrants and guests shall be required to sign the PCA waiver upon registering at the track.  This is in addition to any waiver that the track itself may require you to sign.  You are responsible for your guests and may be asked to leave the event if your guests are found to have not signed the PCA waiver.

The track may charge its own separate nominal entrance fee.  This fee does not go to PCA and is beyond our control.

Transponders:  If you have an AMB Transponder, be sure you've entered the number under "My Account."  (Hint:  you do this where you edit your vehicle information.)  If you don't have a Transponder, they are available for rent and you must have a Transponder to drive in the Time Trial.
